The Brownsville Car Accident

According to the Brownsville Police Department (BPD), a woman died on the morning of Wednesday, October 25, in a single-vehicle accident in Brownsville. The accident occurred before 1:30 a.m. in the 2900 block of Alton Gloor Boulevard.

The preliminary BPD investigation revealed that the woman was traveling westbound on Alton Gloor in a gray 2012 GMC Terrain when the accident happened. For unknown reasons, the driver lost control of her vehicle, leaving the roadway. The vehicle struck an embankment and rolled as a result, striking a nearby electric pole and fence.

Authorities responded to the crash at around 1:30 a.m., and the 24-year-old driver was pronounced dead on the scene. Authorities say it’s unknown whether or not speed or alcohol played a role in this event. The toxicology and autopsy results are pending.

This crash remains under investigation by BPD.

Safe Driving Tips for Texans

As of October 26, it’s still undetermined what caused the deadly Brownsville accident, meaning it’s completely possible something other than driver error caused the crash. However, countless Texas accidents every year are caused by mistakes drivers make, so it’s important to always drive with care on Texas roadways.

Below you can find some top tips for safe driving:

  • Always follow traffic laws and road signs
  • Don’t speed
  • Wear your seat belt
  • Don’t tailgate
  • Avoid driving in poor visibility or poor weather
  • Use your blinkers
  • Watch for unexpected maneuvers
  • Don’t drive distracted
  • Give trucks plenty of room
  • Only drive when you’ve had enough rest
  • Never drive under the influence of drugs or alcohol

By following all of the tips listed above, you can drastically reduce the likelihood you’ll be in a crash, and reduce the danger of any accidents you can’t avoid. For instance, in 2022

5% of all Texas alcohol-involved crashes resulted in a fatality, compared to less than one percent of all Texas car accidents. That means drunk driving can increase your risk of dying in an accident by as much as seven times.

The numbers are even more stark when it comes to speeding. Out of all high-speed-related accidents in Texas in 2022, 12% resulted in a fatality. Speeding can increase your risk of dying in an accident by as much as sixteen times.
