Collision Between VIA Bus and Car Sends Two to the Hospital

Just after 3:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 13th, a passenger vehicle collided with a VIA bus in San Antonio. The crash occurred on the North Side at the intersection of French Place and San Pedro Avenue.

VIA officials reported that the bus was heading south on San Pedro when a car entered its lane. One bus passenger was treated for minor injuries, while the bus driver escaped unharmed.

The driver and passenger in the other vehicle were taken to a local hospital, though their conditions have not been reported.

The San Antonio Police Department and VIA police responded to the scene.

Bus Crashes: How Common Are They?

In 2021, there were 2,550 bus crashes in the state of Texas. Of these, 59 crashes had suspected serious injuries while were 16 fatal. Additionally, 1,815 of these crashes involved no injuries at all. 

School buses have separate statistics, with 1,187 crashes involving 29 serious injuries and five fatal crashes.

Compared to the number of miles driven, buses tend to have fewer crashes than passenger vehicles; there were 473,071 crashes involving passenger vehicles in 2021.
