The First Deadly Motorcycle Crash

Authorities with the San Antonio Police Department report that a motorcyclist was killed in an accident on US Highway 90 West on August 19. The collision occurred at around 8:10 p.m. in the 7400 block of Highway 90.

Police told reporters that the motorcyclist was traveling eastbound on the highway when he lost control of his vehicle for an unknown reason. As a result, the man collided with the left guardrail and was thrown from the bike, striking a metal beam.

The motorcyclist was declared dead at the scene. It hasn’t yet been reported whether or not he was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, and the motorcyclist has yet to be identified.

The Second Deadly Motorcycle Collision

The second deadly motorcycle crash happened on the East Side sometime overnight on Saturday, August 19, but an exact time has not been reported. The crash happened near Interstate 35 and Rittiman Road.

San Antonio Police say they responded to the incident at around 1 p.m. on Sunday. It’s unclear why there was such a long period of time between when the incident occurred and when authorities responded.

Authorities report that the crash involved a 31-year-old man driving a Harley Davidson. The man hit a pallet in the roadway, causing him to lose control and collide with a tree. It’s unclear which road or direction the motorcyclist was traveling at the time of the crash.

The motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene. It has not been reported whether or not he was wearing a helmet when the collision occurred. The deceased has been identified, but his name has not been released.

Motorcycle Accidents in Texas: What You Need To Know

In 2022, there were a total of 555,229 car accidents in Texas, and those accidents involved just over 8,500 motorcycles. While that means that motorcyclists are involved in around just 1.5% of all car accidents, that doesn’t mean you can take motorcycle accidents lightly. While motorcycle accidents make up less than 2% of all car accidents in Texas, they account for 14% of all car accident deaths.

Additionally, while less than 1% of all car accidents result in death, around 7% of all motorcycle accidents are fatal. That means that motorcycle accidents are more than 7 times as likely to cause death compared to other accidents.

All of this goes to show just how important it is that you take care while driving a motorcycle or driving near a motorcyclist.
