Driver Tries To Avoid Collision Instead Crashes Into Home
A driver swerved to avoid a collision but lost control of their vehicle and hit a house on San Antonio’s South Side in the 3800 block of Skyridge Avenue on April 14, 2023.
The driver was headed north on Skyridge when a white sedan ran a stop sign. The northbound driver tried to avoid the collision but lost control and caused significant property damage.
No one was in the home at the time of the crash and the driver was uninjured. The other driver fled the scene. Authorities said there may have been two females in the white sedan but details are limited.
Staying Safe When You Lose Control
When having to make an evasive maneuver in an effort to avoid a collision, it can be easy to lose traction of your vehicle. In order to stay safe when you lose control of your vehicle, take the following actions:
- Stay calm if you can. Overcorrecting can make the situation worse.
- Keep your eyes open and on the road. You don’t want to regain control and run off the road because you weren’t looking.
- Shift into neutral so no more power is going to the wheels.
- Your hands should stay on the wheel as you try to regain control.
- Steer into the skid. Figure out which way the back end is trying to go and steer the car in that direction.
- Slow down and try to straighten the car as soon as possible.
- Get away from danger. If you hit ice on the road, other cars could lose control and hit you. Wait until it’s safe to stop the vehicle.
