What To Do if You’re Hit by a Car
More than 11% of pedestrian-car accidents result in a fatality and another 21% result in serious injuries. That means that more than 32% of all pedestrian-auto accidents leave the pedestrians potentially unable to call for help for themselves. This added danger makes it incredibly important that drivers stop and render aid following a car accident.
If you have been seriously injured in a pedestrian-car accident, seek immediate emergency help, either by yourself or through a bystander. Your health should be your top priority. You can ask a bystander or a friend to help you gather information from the scene while you seek medical assistance.
On the other hand, if you’ve been involved in a pedestrian-car accident and aren’t seriously injured, you can follow the steps below to keep yourself as safe as possible:
- Call for emergency assistance or ask a bystander to call.
- Move out of the way of traffic.
- If the vehicle drives away, take note of all identifying details.
- Wait for emergency services to arrive.
- If you are injured, seek medical care as soon as possible.
- Get contact information from everyone involved, including witnesses.
- Take pictures of the scene.
